5 steps to get your motivation back after holidays

It’s always a struggle to get motivation back after some time off.

Here below we suggest 5 easy ways to get your motivation back to start this September and winter in the best possible way.

1. Set goals

“There is no favourable wind for the sailor who doesn’t know where to go” (Seneca).

Creating a purpose and a direction is important to stay focused and motivated. Just make sure your goals are SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound) meaning they are established using a specific set of criteria that ensures your objectives are attainable within a certain time frame. By knowing where you’d like to get, you’ll also start planning how to get there.

Whether your goal is finding a job, losing or gaining weight, starting your business, or reading 20 books in 1 year, planning is an important second step after setting goals. Planning gives you the possibility to break down the bigger goal in smaller achievements that also trace your progress. When seeing progress and results, you’ll feel motivated to do more and keep going.

So set your goals and start planning!

2. Keep learning

Feeling stimulated also becomes a form of motivation. For this reason, staying informed and keeping learning is a way to stay motivated.

List a few skills that you’d like to learn this fall and winter, and try to find the best way for you to learn – books, podcasts, courses, free sessions.

Besides receiving and processing information, learning also happens by doing. So, in case you are looking for courses where practice is the magic word, you should check GAMS Platform!

3. Stay fit

Fitness and activities such as yoga or meditation help you disconnect from reality and daily problems, helping to clear your mind.

Moreover, a regular fitness routine helps increase focus and time management.

Exercise is proven to boost serotonin levels, which encourages you to be more productive. A study conducted in 2008 demonstrated that working out before sitting at your desk increases time management and productivity levels by 72%. Incredible, right?

4. Enjoy motivational books or podcasts

The power of positive thinking by Dr. Norman Vincent Peale

This book has sold over 5 million copies worldwide helping many people live more fulfilling lives through Dr. Peale’s message of inspiration and faith.

The book’s first teaching is that each life is worthwhile and it helps people to achieve happiness and higher levels of life satisfaction. It instils a feeling of determination and motivation to pursue our goals with power, control, and persistence.

A bit of Optimism by Simon Sinek

As he writes, “During these times, we are all having to find new ways to connect”.

Each week he publishes a new episode interviewing people about love, life, leadership and silver linings.

The hope is that we all leave with something I think we need these days… a bit of Optimism” (Simon Sinek).

5. Join a community

Joining communities is the best way to keep yourself updated with marketing and tech news, meet new people like yourself, learn from others and keep the motivation up!

There are big marketing communities especially Facebook groups to join where everybody can share ideas or ask for material or suggestions. If you need info or you are looking for a specific answer, communities may be more effective than looking for hours around the internet for what you need.

In GAMS Platform we are building a Telegram community to share, discuss and stay informed about the most important MarTech and AdTech news, initiatives and skills.
